Australian Schools Based Apprenticeship Group

On Tuesday last week parents and students who were interested in learning more about Apprenticeships and Traineeships which can be started while still at school came along to an information session. Tracy Harrison from Australian Training Company told us about the ASBA opportunities through their employment and Mr Stewart filled in the gaps regarding trade ASBAs and the new ASBA group that is being set up in the school. Anyone in year 10 or 11 who are interested in starting their employ and training while still at school should email Mr Stewart to arrange an appointment.

 

UC Presentation

On Wednesday the 21st of August a representative from University of Canberra will be visiting us in the Kingsford Smith room at recess to discuss applications, courses and all things UC. Any student considering applying for UC this year or next would benefit from seeing this presentation and taking part. Students may bring their recess, please arrive promptly.

 

University Applications

It can be overwhelming hearing words such as, UAC, VTAC, QTAC , SATAC and TISC being thrown around when you are trying to navigate the next steps to completing your university application. But fear not, the Careers Department is here to help!

 

There is a suite of videos from the University Admissions Centre (UAC) to help year 12s with the application process. UAC is responsible for processing applications to most universities in the ACT and NSW. A list of the universities that fall within the ACT and NSW jurisdiction can be found UAC Newsletter Super Edition. We’d also encourage students to download the UAC app for Apple and Android for further information on courses, and much more.

 

The Careers Department can also help and provide support to students with their applications – please contact Mr Stewart to arrange a time, if you would like face to face assistance.

Plastering and Carpentry Apprenticeships

Heavy Diesel Mechanic ASbA

Australian Training Company is looking for students in years 10 and 11 to undertake an ASBA with ACTION Buses.

 

Successful ASBAs will commence in early February 2020, working one day per week at either the Tuggeranong or Belconnen Depot. ASBAs will also be required to attend Canberra  institute of Technology (Fyshwick campus) one day per week (total 2 days out of school per week).

 

This is a fantastic opportunity for students to work on all aspects of ACTION buses from conducting minor servicing and repairs to taking part in completely rebuilding engines and transmissions. Students will be complete the first year of a Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology at CIT.

ATC Is currently looking for multiple Aged Care ASBAs to undertake a  Certificate III in Individual Support. The host employer is based in Red Hill, so candidates will need to have transport or lovely parents. Shifts are generally 2 days per week (the same days) from 7am-12.30pm.

This will be suited to students in years 10 or 11.

Australian Schools Based Apprenticeship Group

St Francis Xavier College will be running an ASBA group for students who wish to obtain an ASBA next year. A school-based apprenticeship or traineeship (ASBA) is an apprenticeship or traineeship undertaken by a student enrolled in a senior secondary program, with at least one day per week timetabled to be spent on the job or in training during the normal school week. There is an parent Information session at the school on Tuesday the 13th of August at 5pm.

It can be overwhelming hearing words such as, UAC, VTAC, QTAC , SATAC and TISC being thrown around when you are trying to navigate the next steps to completing your university application. But fear not, the Careers Department is here to help!

 

There is a suite of videos from the University Admissions Centre (UAC) to help year 12s with the application process. UAC is responsible for processing applications to most universities in the ACT and NSW. A list of the universities that fall within the ACT and NSW jurisdiction can be found UAC Newsletter Super Edition. We’d also encourage students to download the UAC app for Apple and Android for further information on courses, and much more. The Careers Department can also help and provide support to students with their applications – please contact Mr Stewart to arrange a time, if you would like face to face assistance.

The Charles Sturt Advantage is our way of recognising Year 12 students who demonstrate to us how you’ve displayed resilience, empathy and a commitment to creating a world worth living in (like your motivation to study your chosen degree) – the soft skills we know give them the edge!

  • The first is an early conditional offer to study an undergraduate degree of their choice (from the list of eligible courses).
  • Successful Charles Sturt Advantage students will be offered a conditional offer in midSeptember – ahead of when they are due to sit their final exams
  • Alongside this, Charles Sturt Advantage students are subject to minimum ATAR requirements connected to select courses – which are outlined on our early entry website

 

Our Charles Sturt Advantage students will also can be a part of an exclusive nurture program, which will provide them with access to a range of resources, events and programs – connecting them with a community of likeminded students.

Students will be a part of our exclusive mentoring program to start their degree off on the right foot, receiving email support, free merchandise (like a Charles Sturt hoodie!), access to networking opportunities and early access to the STRIVE leadership program.
